Dr. Jonathan Keith

Dr. Keith is a board-certified, fellowship-trained plastic surgeon with expertise in gender-affirming and microvascular reconstructive surgery. He is a founding surgeon at GAMMA (Gender Affirming Medical and Microsurgical Associates), where his practice is dedicated to delivering safe, affirming, and expert surgical care to transgender and nonbinary individuals.

Prior to founding GAMMA, Dr. Keith served as Associate Professor of Surgery and Residency Program Director in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. A committed advocate and national leader in transgender health, he also established the Rutgers Center for Transgender Health.

In 2018, Dr. Keith launched New Jersey’s first multidisciplinary clinical program for transgender patients and performed the state’s first gender-affirming phalloplasty. Since then, he has been at the forefront of surgical innovation in this field, with published research on technique, outcomes, and access to care. His work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals and national media, including an editorial contribution to USA Today. He regularly lectures across the country and is an active member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).

Experienced Thought Leader

Dr. Keith completed his seven-year integrated plastic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh—one of the nation’s most respected plastic surgery training programs. He went on to earn the prestigious Stephen S. Kroll Fellowship in microsurgery at the University Hospital of Gent in Belgium, where he trained with Dr. Phillip Blondeel and Dr. Stan Monstrey, leaders in reconstructive breast and gender-affirming surgery. There, he gained advanced experience in cutting-edge procedures such as DIEP flap breast reconstruction, vaginoplasty, and phalloplasty.

He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland. He has also participated in surgical missions to South Africa and Vietnam. In every setting—from academic training to global outreach—Dr. Keith brings the same values to his work: technical precision, thoughtful surgical design, and deep respect for the patients he serves.
